El hallazgo de enormes formaciones rocosas en los mares que bañan la península de Guanahacabibes constituye en verdad una sorpresa inesperada y apasionante para la arqueología submarina. Las expectativas a nivel internacional no decaen. Arqueólogos, geólogos, antropólogos, historiadores, filólogos, científicos estudiosos de culturas antiguas en sus diversas manifestaciones, así como el público en general, esperan los resultados de las investigaciones iniciadas en el año 2000 y continuadas actualmente, ahora con medios más avanzados de todo tipo. La insoslayable pregunta es si se está o no en presencia de estructuras megalíticas construidas hace miles de años por la mano del hombre o si, por el contrario, se trata solo de enormes formaciones naturales de piedra o de alguna otra formación geológica.
